Awesome Illustrator Tutorial #2: Wood Grain Texture
In this Illustrator tutorial, you will learn how to make a useful wood texture. You can use this to make a pretty cool text effect or background. Since it’s vector, you can do pretty much whatever you want with it! Blow it up and put on the side of a skyscraper if you want! Here is what the end product should look like:
So as you can see, this isn’t a particularly amazing looking piece of wood, but it gets the job done. It is pretty simple, but I honestly had quite a hard time with it! Not sure why, mostly just that I wanted it too look TOO realistic so I spent a long time on it.
The tutorial itself is pretty straightforward. They leave a lot up to you as far as the wood grain, they just tell you with tools to use and what drawing techniques work best. I really like this approach because you actually get to be a little artistic about it rather than just working in menus and such. There weren’t any problems I ran into, this is a great tutorial overall! One thing I think would look great with this would be one or two little knots in the grain to make it look more realistic, but for the purpose this is fine.
Hope you get some use out of this tutorial! Here’s the link!
